Drift through your dental treatment comfortably and relaxed with sedation dentistry. We can help make dentistry a walk in the park!
Sedation Dentistry or Dental Sedation
For some patients, dentistry can be rather difficult to endure. Perhaps there was a difficult dental experience early in life, or maybe a low threshold of discomfort. Whatever the reason, such patients can be very well-served through the enhanced comfort available with sedation dentistry. At City Center Dental Care, we will review your medical history with you during the pre-anesthetic assessment to determine the best type of sedation for your case. We offer both oral sedation, which consists of a combination of pills to make you relaxed and sleepy, taken one hour before the treatment as well as IV sedation for improved response and control.
Nitrous Oxide “Laughing Gas”- is available in all treatment rooms at City Center Dental Care and can be used for routine cleanings or more advanced dental procedures. This gas helps patients relax and takes the edge off. A mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen delivered through a nasal canula to achieve the desired effect. With this option, patients do not require someone accompanying them to their appointment as the gas wears off very quickly. This is a great option for many patients that require minimal sedation.
Oral Sedation- can provide minimal or moderate sedation based on the medication dose provided. Most people will be groggy enough to fall asleep during the procedure and be gently woken up at the completion of the procedure. Many patients cannot believe how fast the time goes by and work is complete.
IV Sedation- medications for sedation are delivered through an IV so they work much more quickly. Our doctors have the greatest control in the level of sedation with this option and will continually regulate medications to achieve the desired level of drowsiness over the course of the procedure. This is a great option for maximizing the amount of dental treatment in a single visit while you rest comfortably, having no recollection of the procedure.
Patient safety is paramount: Our doctors are trained in Advance Cardiac Life Support and will continuously monitor you throughout the procedure, tracking your EKG, heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and end tidal CO2. If you think sedation dentistry is the much-needed option for you, we would love the opportunity to talk about this unique opportunity, call City Center Dental Care to set up your consultation.
Sedation Treatment
For many patients, a trip to the dentist creates an overwhelming sense of panic or anxiety. It is this fear that has kept so many people from getting much-needed dental care. To help patients relax, our doctors have received advanced training, including advanced cardiac life support, so that we can offer a revolutionary option called conscious sedation. Conscious sedation dentistry, available at our City Center office in Newport News, allows maximum comfort during dental treatment and is very safe. Sedation dentistry helps the patient enter a complete state of relaxation, where they will be virtually unaware of any treatment. The patient is gently awakened after treatment and has no recollection of any treatment and minimal discomfort.
